Basement Bathroom

Much progress has happened in the bathroom.  Over Thanskgiving Charlie and Christopher hung all of the drywall in the room.

So, recently Charlie has taped, mudded and is getting ready to sand.  Which means we need to make decisions on the wall color, so we headed off to Home Depot for some paint.

I wanted something different from every other room in the house.  Something a little bold, but not over the top.  I wanted orange... or some variation of orange anyway. 

Above you can see the color family that I was thinking of...
What I finally picked was the Behr Ground Nutmeg in Satin.  I think it will per perfect.  The door and trim will be white and the hardware is brushed chrome.

I'm really excited to see how this looks on the walls!!!  Finally, I have orange in my house, or nutmeg rather.   We might paint as early as tomorrow if Charlie is happy w/how his mud has turned out. 

First Snow of the Season

The snow began this morning with just some light flurries.  This afternoon we now have the big fluffy flakes that are made for fun!!!!

Christmas Tree

Hey all!!! I wen to New York City on December 3rd to see the Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular. ..... and ... it was Spectacular. It was a lot of fun. I only had my cell phone to take pics, but I got this one of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center. The tree was gorgeous!

Christmas came early

I'm sooooo excited about my new china hutch.   I had been wanting to get another Broyhill Attic Heirlooms piece to add to my dining room set.  So, I told Charlie that I wanted the hutch for my Christmas / Birthday gift and he said ok.  So, we went up to Westminster last Friday and ordered it.  It was in stock and was delivered today.  I knew that it had lights in the upper part, and it has glass doors...  but the neat surprise is that the upper right hinge (see the tag sticking out) is a touch control for the lights!!!!!  How cool is that?  I never used the light in my old hutch cuz it was sooooo inconvenient to turn on and off.  I think my buffet plate holders will fit in there nicely!!

I think I can finally unpack the rest of my Broyhill china set and get back some much needed closet space.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!! We had quite the crowd for Thanksgiving this year. Christopher, Brandy, Libby, and Tyler drove all the way from Mississippi! Mom and Dick came in from PA. Shelby, Bud, Audrey, Logan and little Liam headed the 30 minutes west from Gwyn Oak. It was great! Lots of people, food and fun. We roasted a turkey and had all the fixin's, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, pasta salad, green salad... YUMMY.

We cleared the table did the dished then we had a LCR challenge for nickels. Libby took us all to the bank w/her $3 in nickels winnings!

Then it was dessert time!

Oatmeal Breakfast Bar

I'm looking for an Oatmeal Breakfast Bar recipe that is low sugar, low fat, and possibly low in refined flour.  I'm ok w/using eggs.  I've come across a few recipes, but am not sure what to try:

Diagonal Shell Stitch Corner to Corner Afghan

Aunt Frannie makes this great corner to corner afghan as baby shower gifts.  She said it was super easy to make, so I googled the pattern and found a tutorial online.  I have one started, and will take pictures of it soon.

Mom's Oyster Crackers

1/2 tsp. dill weed
1/4 tsp. garlic salt
1/4 tsp. lemon pepper
1 pkg. Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix
3/4 c. oil
1 lb. oyster crackers

In a fairly large bowl, mix all the spices with the oil.  Add oyster crackers and stir well.  Spread out in jelly roll or other large pan with sides.  Bake at 250 for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring a couple of times.  Cool and eat.

Charlie's latest deployment has been delayed and Brett has early dismissal today, so we decided to head up to PA for a short weekend visit.  I was hoping that it would still be snowing, but looks like rain.  I did go to Target and get Brett some new boots and snow pants, just in case.

This is a neat time of year to go home, because all the local VFW chapters will be doing their Veteran's Day dinners and dances and celebrations. 

Charlie and I both received notes from students in Mrs. Donahue's class in Seagertown Elementary School thanking us for our service is the US Navy.   I guess we are veteran's.  So, that was pretty cool.

Check out this black acorn that Brett found, I've never seen one that color, it was really cool.  We

also saw a ton of acorns that were sprouting, that is another first for me to actually see.

Pumpkin Seeds

We finally got around to carving the pumpkin that Mom brought down for Brett.
I know, I know.... Halloween is over, but Brett and I wanted to get to those seeds for roasting.
I just cleaned, oiled, salted and added a sprinkle of nutmeg and popped 'em in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Then I got to thinking.... I wonder if there are any recipes out there for this, just in case I was doing it wrong. So, I googled it and came across a really need website : http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/001524.html
I think I'll check this site for other cooking ideas, it looks interesting.

November Day

Brett and I took a little walk on the trails today. It was a little cool and very sunny, a beautiful November day.

There have been lots of these white moths landing on the chocolate mint plants in the front walk. They are so pretty.

On our walk today, we stopped to enjoy what is left of the raspberries.

Brett and I took a stroll through the trails and woods today after the storm. We stopped to visit the goats, but they just ran. Mister LB walked w/us. He is a weird cat, walks with you like a dog does.

Charlie is halfway through his deployment, two months down... two more to go. We can't wait for him to come home.

what a booger! he is getting more and more spoiled as time goes on.... Well, here we are in the heat and humidity of summer 2007! Brett is back in summer camp, I'm still going to work. Baseball is over and football is around the corner.
